BEFORE & AFTER: FIREPLACE – NO HOOK UP REQUIRED

Deborah Nelson November 3, 2015

Since it's officially the first day of fall, it's a great time to dream about a fireplace. If you're keen on a fireplace but don't want the hassle or expense of adding gas, electrical, etc. – here is an option to consider. In the living room above I added an eco-friendly fireplace burner by Eco Smart fireplace. This is an environmentally friendly fireplace that burns a bio ethanol to create a small flame. The really great aspect of this, is that you don't need a flue, chimney, liner, any gas line or electrical source. Obviously I had the burner built-in to an existing fireplace. It was there for ambiance only, it did look really great when it was on – it was better than nothing! And I didn't have to do anything to the existing mantel or fireplace other than add the burner. You can use these fireplaces outdoors and they also sell an entire selection of full fireplaces that come with the burner inside. You can put anywhere in your home, so basically it's a portable fireplace and it can be easily moved around.

If you're like me and you like a fire – this was a simple solution!

While I'm showing this fireplace I may as well show the 'before'. It was ugly before, and of course I painted everything, the hearth, surround, mantel and walls.

Lots more of this extensive renovation to show over the coming months! A quick shot I snapped of my Chester kitchen which has been drastically transformed since the beginning. Swipe over to see the before shot! #debnelsondesign #kitchenrenovation #
I used a variety of antiques in this guest room - the bed, chair, blanket and artwork were all items I've collected over time. I love how they add so much character to a room, the antique charcoal sketch above the bed is dated from the 1800’s

Open shelving is one of my favourite ways to display those items in your kitchen that are both functional and full of character, like cutting boards, dishes, glassware and even quirky bottle openers 📷: @samsonpix⁣
