MY TOP 3 FAVOURITE ENTRY RUGS: DURABLE & STYLISH

Deborah Nelson October 20, 2015

I have 3 types of rugs that I always recommend for clients in an entry – and use in my own home.

1. Antique kilim – this rug (shown above in my entry) has really stood the test of time. I've had it for the last 8 years and it's been used in my entry area in many homes. The wool rug cleans up beautifully but I think the number one reason this works so well is the colour and pattern in the rug. It really just doesn't show dirt or stains. It's vacuumed regularly but I've never had it professionally cleaned.

2. Sisal – I love natural sisal in an entry. They look great and are easy to keep clean. They come in a number of colours and  patterns, and you can choose to add a border that contrasts or blends with the colour of the rug. It's a simple design solution that works in almost any home.

3. Indoor/outdoor rugs – these are really the most durable rug you can get for a front entry. They are designed to live outside, so they are made to withstand the elements. Over the last few years outdoor rugs have come a long way, there are some beautiful colours, patterns and textures.

I used a variety of antiques in this guest room - the bed, chair, blanket and artwork were all items I've collected over time. I love how they add so much character to a room, the antique charcoal sketch above the bed is dated from the 1800’s

Open shelving is one of my favourite ways to display those items in your kitchen that are both functional and full of character, like cutting boards, dishes, glassware and even quirky bottle openers 📷: @samsonpix⁣
