INSPIRATION: SHADES OF BLUE

Jordan July 24, 2015

One of my favourite colours is blue and I love the range of blue shades from the very pale blues to a brighter, deeper turquoise and navy. Even in small doses like the image above, a bit of blue is a great accent.

Here are a few other blues I love:

Navy blue grass cloth: recently used in a clients living room and I love how this turned out!

I’ve also used a very light blue linen on a sofa and have to say it’s a beautiful look.

This wall painted with two Farrow & Ball colours really works, it’s a combo of pitch blue and lulworth blue.

The vintage Indian dhurrie area rug by Madeline Weinrib is still a personal favourite. I love the look of faded blue rugs.

DEB'S TOP THREE: BEDS!

Jordan July 22, 2015

Having the right type of bed can really make the room. A bed frame or headboard really isn’t necessary, but it does certainly add a finished look to any room.

Here are a few of my faves!

1. RH slipcover – this would be the one I’d get today! I love the versatility that a slip cover gives you. You could change the fabric on this and totally change the look of your bedroom décor.

2. Cane bed by Serena & lily – such a classic look and paired with some pretty bedding it just gets even better!

3. A more modern low bed is the Matera from Design Within Reach. The walnut wood looks great and the fact that It has storage on the sides makes it very functional.

HOUSE & HOME MAGAZINE – AUGUST 2015

Jordan July 19, 2015

I’m very excited to be in the August issue of House & Home magazine. The house I styled for the magazine is absolutely beautiful. It was designed and built by my friend Nicholas Lewin, the kitchen is really amazing and so is that pool and pool house!

Be sure to check out the shoot on page 58, and if you look really closely you can see my name on page 59.

INSPIRATION: FOOD!

Jordan July 16, 2015

If you are considering making changes or upgrades to a kitchen or outdoor space (or any space where food is consumed for that matter), why not use FOOD as your inspiration? I absolutely love watching the masterful work of a chef, not only for what is going to come of it, but for the absolute beauty of it all! Food is gorgeous, simply put.

Say you are a "home-chef" who loves to cook wonderful meals for yourself and family. Most of us home chefs tend to cook with certain ingredients, or in a certain style. Look at the food you love to make, and use those textures and colours of your inspiration. The possibilities are endless – Moroccan, Italian, Spanish, French...

DEB'S TOP THREE: COLOURFUL CHAIRS

Jordan July 15, 2015

I’ve always liked a simple, white dining chair. In the image above. my white chair with wooden legs has consistently been my desk chair with various desks. It also makes a great dining room chair, and is functional as it can be wiped clean of any spills.

Here’s another cute white chair from Ikea that would make a great desk or dining chair. It’s also stackable.

Another chair I love with some colour is the Tucker chair from Serena & Lily. It comes in many colours – including coral. But I love the blue too, I can’t decide which shade I like better!

Finally, last but not least, this special edition Design Within Reach chair, I love the light pink with gold legs. Fabulous colour combo!

Starting to get into the Christmas spirit to be ready for the @ywcahalifax Homes for the Holidays happening November 22-24! A bit of a natural holiday vibe from my place a few seasons back. This year I'll have it decked a little bit more! 🎄🎄🎄 📷:

A shot of some subtle holiday touches from my Chester place. Now that it's November it's time for me to start thinking holiday decor 🎄to get ready for @ywcahalifax Homes for the Holidays. Just a few weeks away and tickets are on sale now! 📷: @sianc
Lots more of this extensive renovation to show over the coming months! A quick shot I snapped of my Chester kitchen which has been drastically transformed since the beginning. Swipe over to see the before shot! #debnelsondesign #kitchenrenovation #
I used a variety of antiques in this guest room - the bed, chair, blanket and artwork were all items I've collected over time. I love how they add so much character to a room, the antique charcoal sketch above the bed is dated from the 1800’s
