Deb Nelson Design Subtle Holiday Decor

YWCA Home for the Holidays 2019!

Deborah Nelson October 2, 2019

I’m excited to announce that I’m participating as a designer in this year's Homes for the Holidays hosted by YWCA Halifax! The event happens November 22nd to 24th and I’ll be showcasing a personal project of mine, a beautiful old Halifax home with lots of character that I’ve been renovating since March.  You can purchase tickets here and walk through 3 Halifax homes that have been decorated for the holiday season.  Money raised from this event will support local women and girls, so I’m thrilled to be involved. I hope those in the Halifax area will purchase tickets to kick off the holiday season, see some beautiful holiday decor, and most importantly support a wonderful cause!

The image here is one that makes me think of easy ways to transition the seasons, adding some natural texture to a space starts to make it feel cozier.  The addition of some fresh arrangements like pine mixed with calla lilies can help to provide a festive touch. You could also use pine cones, branches or other current seasonal elements for a nice fall table setting for everyday use, or even Thanksgiving dinner.

For me, it’s time to get this renovation wrapped up and really start planning my holiday decor.  I love Christmas decor, so it will be lots of fun to add the perfect festive touches to this wonderful home. I’ll be posting more about my renovation progress and the event over the coming months.  So mark the dates in your calendar and buy your tickets — this will be a fun way to get into the holiday spirit and support a great cause!

A shot of some subtle holiday touches from my Chester place. Now that it's November it's time for me to start thinking holiday decor 🎄to get ready for @ywcahalifax Homes for the Holidays. Just a few weeks away and tickets are on sale now! 📷: @sianc
Lots more of this extensive renovation to show over the coming months! A quick shot I snapped of my Chester kitchen which has been drastically transformed since the beginning. Swipe over to see the before shot! #debnelsondesign #kitchenrenovation #
I used a variety of antiques in this guest room - the bed, chair, blanket and artwork were all items I've collected over time. I love how they add so much character to a room, the antique charcoal sketch above the bed is dated from the 1800’s

Open shelving is one of my favourite ways to display those items in your kitchen that are both functional and full of character, like cutting boards, dishes, glassware and even quirky bottle openers 📷: @samsonpix⁣
