Deb Nelson Design: After Low Budget Kitchen Reno

Budget Makeover Before & After: a Kitchen Transformed for $125

Deborah Nelson August 28, 2019

I recently updated a rental property of mine and have some great before & after pictures to show.  The home had been renovated in the 2000’s and was already a lovely open concept floor plan with a large kitchen, living room and dining room.  It needed some updates like new paint throughout, light fixtures, window treatments, hardware, etc.

The kitchen was the largest transformation, and for about $125 was a super budget-friendly makeover that completely changed the space.  It’s no secret that I am fond of paint… and it’s been said many times, but it really is the least expensive way to drastically change a space.  I painted everything, but the kitchen was the biggest change and by painting the wooden kitchen cabinets and changing the hardware I created a whole new look that I was really happy with.  I also painted built-in cabinets, bathroom vanity, shelves in other rooms, and I painted several different types of flooring including the front stairs coming into the home.  All in all money well spent in my book!  Here are some before and after photos of the kitchen.

Lots more of this extensive renovation to show over the coming months! A quick shot I snapped of my Chester kitchen which has been drastically transformed since the beginning. Swipe over to see the before shot! #debnelsondesign #kitchenrenovation #
I used a variety of antiques in this guest room - the bed, chair, blanket and artwork were all items I've collected over time. I love how they add so much character to a room, the antique charcoal sketch above the bed is dated from the 1800’s

Open shelving is one of my favourite ways to display those items in your kitchen that are both functional and full of character, like cutting boards, dishes, glassware and even quirky bottle openers 📷: @samsonpix⁣
