There’s something about the change in season from summer to fall where we start think about making our homes cozy for the winter ahead, which reminded me of this fireplace makeover I did with the help of my guy, Ken, in a former living room of mine. I didn’t like the existing non-functioning fireplace, so I made some budget-friendly updates, turning it into a beautiful feature that fit the newly renovated space while looking original to the historic home.

This home had been renovated in the 2000’s and was already a lovely open concept floor plan with a large kitchen, living room and dining room, but needed some updates like new paint throughout, light fixtures, window treatments, hardware, etc. The kitchen was the largest transformation, and for about $125 was a super budget-friendly makeover that completely changed the space. 

I’ve had my fair share of living in very small spaces, and it can become a really interesting design challenge to make the space work for your needs.  Often the number one necessity is function, i.e. to fit everything in to make the space work for you.  And the number one functional concern is often storage. In a small space, this can quickly become an issue, so that’s something you need to consider carefully from the beginning.
